Despite its delicate appearance, it is a vigorous plant and resistant to cold, especially as regards the cerulea species, the most widely-cultivated kind in Italy.
It is grown in sunny locations with good, cool and rich soil, making sure to plant it out of the wind.
It needs fairly regular watering, from April to September.
In autumn you should generally shorten the long creepers considerably, so as to contain the plant.
In the market you can also find semi-hardy species that require somewhere frost-free during the winter months. You should grow them in large pots, in order to make it easier to manage the plants during the cold months.
