It works by filling the empty spaces caused by termites with a flexible and solid material, so as to make it possible to use the wooden item, even if it is badly damaged. These gaps are filled using various types of synthetic resins, which are diluted in acetone, nitro solvent or other solvents.
The quickest method consists in the repeated immersion of the article in a solution of resin and solvent, but generally this is not possible, due to the size of the wooden item to be treated, or because of the fact that not all wood can withstand complete immersion in a fluid.
Therefore another procedure is to spread the resin solution on the piece of wood, using a well-soaked brush, so as to make the resin penetrate as deeply as possible. Make multiple treatments, at the end of each of which you should clean the outer surface of the wood with a soft cloth soaked with the same solvent used to dissolve the resin, to ensure that it leaves no deposits on the surface of the artefact. Leave it to dry and then repeat the operation several times.
